Sacred Sites Morocco

Tours of Marrakesh and Fez's Sacred Sites

About

Sacred Sites Morocco has been operating since September 2006, and is run by wife and husband team Nora Fitzgerald and Hamza Emmanuel Weinman.

Nora Fitzgerald

My parents became Muslims almost 40 years ago.  They moved to Morocco in the 70's, and I was born in Sale and raised in Marrakesh. Like many people nowadays I am a bit of a mix; I consider both Arabic and English my native tongues, learned French in the Moroccan schools I attended, and that helped a lot in acquiring Spanish later on.

I often find myself acting as a bridge, facilitator and translator between Westerners and Moroccans.  It's been an honor to do this in the context of guiding Western Muslims to the maqams of Moroccan saints.  Since starting Sacred Sites Morocco in September 2006, my husband and I have met hundreds of good people, many of whom we still maintain contact with.

I was born and raised in Taos, New Mexico and first came to Morocco about 15 years ago.  Marrakesh has been home to me and my family for the past 8 years.

I was first introduced to Islam in Morocco as a teenager, and this land has continued to gift me over the years with its beauty, spirituality, culture, and the sanity of its traditional Islamic practice.

I hope that through the Sacred Sites tours, others can experience these benefits too.  I also pray that bringing groups of Western Muslims to visit sacred sites in Morocco will encourage the traditional Islamic spirit of Morocco that is working to define itself in our modern age of globalization.

I deeply enjoy being part of the tours, both the ziyara to the Seven Saints and the Atlas mountain trips.
